CAROLA BRACKROCK

Biografie:

Carola Brackrock wurde 1944 in Flensburg geboren. Nach ihrem Schulbesuch in Kiel begann sie 1961 das Studium der Fotografie und Fotografik an der Muthesius Werkkunstschule in Kiel. Sie studierte bei Fritz Neuser und Hermann Bentele. Das Grundverständnis über den Umgang mit Farbe in der Fotografie lernte sie bei dem in den 60er Jahren führenden Farbfotografen Peter Cornelius. Carola Brackrock schloss ihr Studium 1965 als Diplom Designerin/Fotografie ab. Danach arbeitete sie als Fotografin in Kiel und managte nach dem Umzug nach Hamburg das Fotostudio, das sie zusammen mit ihrem Mann, dem Fotografen Wulf Brackrock noch heute betreibt. 1997 ergab sich eine Zusammenarbeit mit Prof. Jan Koblasa. Für sein Projekt `Zwei Männer in Betrachtung des Mondes´ nach Caspar David Friedrich entstanden ihre ersten digitalen Arbeiten. Seit der Zeit beschäftigt sich Carola Brackrock mit Digitaler Malerei und Visueller Poesie.

2001 war die erste Ausstellung. Es folgten viele Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen im In- und Ausland. Carola Brackrock arbeitet seriell, d.h. sie setzt bewusst die Serie ein, um die eigentliche Idee zu visualisieren. Das kann einmal geschehen durch die Reihung von Bildern in leichter aber konsequenter Variation oder aber sie verbindet die Reihung und Variation via Dopplung und Abstraktion zu einer eigenständigen neuen Bildkomposition, deren fotografische Ausgangsbasis oft nur noch in Andeutungen vorhanden ist. Ihre Bilder und Installationen sind in privaten und öffentlichen Sammlungen sowie der Sammlung der Kieler Kunsthalle und der HSH-Nordbank vertreten.

Carola Brackrock spielt in ihren Arbeiten mit der Wahrnehmung, mit der Phantasie des Betrachters, bewegt sich in einem Grenzbereich der Fotografie. Rein technisch ist es ein Ansinnen der Künstlerin, die Gestaltungsgrenzen zwischen Fotografie und Malerei durchlässig zu machen. Zum Einen sind es digitale Bearbeitungen fotografischer Originale, zum Anderen, die Darstellung von Schrift und Grafik, als Ergebnis phantasievoller, poetischer Auseinandersetzung mit Typografie als Kunst. Jahrelang arbeitete Carola Brackrock im Bereich der analogen Fotografie. Höchste Qualität im Aufnahme- sowie Dunkelkammerprozess, war ihr künstlerischer Anspruch. Aufbauend auf diesen Erfahrungen bot sich ihr mit den digitalen Medien die Möglichkeit, neue Bildaussagen zu kreieren. Die Grenzen zwischen Form und Inhalt verschieben sich, aber auch Interpretationen von Formen, Fülle und Leere, geben uns einen Einblick in den kreativen Prozess, auf der Suche nach Abbildung von Raum und Zeit, der Suche nach den Möglichkeiten die Grenzen unserer Erfahrung und somit unserer Wahrnehmung zu verschieben. Das fertige Bild ist das Ergebnis eines komplexen Prozesses, der Ihren Anspruch nach fotografisch-typografischer Perfektion und Qualität folgt. Wenn sie ihre Bilder mit dem Digigrafiestempel versieht, vermittelt sie dem Betrachter damit auch die Wertigkeit, ein wichtiger Aspekt im Verständnis der modernen digitalen Fotografie.

Biography:

Carola Brackrock was born in Flensburg in 1944. After attending school in Kiel, she began studying photography and photography at the Muthesius Werkkunstschule in Kiel in 1961. She was taught by Fritz Neuser and Hermann Bentele. She learned the basic understanding of the use of color in photography from Peter Cornelius, the leading color photographer in the 1960s. Carola Brackrock graduated in 1965 with a degree in design/photography. She then worked as a photographer in Kiel and, after moving to Hamburg, managed the photo studio, which she still runs today together with her husband, the photographer Wulf Brackrock. In 1997 she collaborated with Prof. Jan Koblasa. For his project 'Two Men Contemplating the Moon' after Caspar David Friedrich, she created her first digital works. Since then, Carola Brackrock has been working with digital painting and visual poetry.

The first exhibition was held in 2001. This was followed by many solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad. Carola Brackrock works serially, i.e. she consciously uses the series to visualize the actual idea. This can be done through the sequence of images in slight but consistent variation, or it can combine the sequence and variation via duplication and abstraction to form an independent new image composition, the photographic starting point of which is often only available in hints. Her paintings and installations are represented in private and public collections as well as in the collections of the Kieler Kunsthalle and the HSH-Nordbank.

In her works, Carola Brackrock plays with perception, with the imagination of the viewer, moving in a borderline area of photography. From a purely technical point of view, it is the artist's intention to make the creative boundaries between photography and painting permeable. On the one hand, there are digital adaptations of photographic originals, and on the other hand, the representation of writing and graphics, as the result of an imaginative, poetic examination of typography as art. Carola Brackrock worked in the field of analogue photography for many years. Highest quality in the recording and darkroom process was her artistic claim. Building on these experiences, digital media gave her the opportunity to create new visual statements. The boundaries between form and content shift, but so do interpretations of forms, fullness and emptiness, giving us an insight into the creative process, in search of the representation of space and time, the search for the possibilities to shift the boundaries of our experience and thus of our perception. The finished image is the result of a complex process that follows your demand for photographic-typographic perfection and quality. When she stamps her images with the digigraphy stamp, she also conveys the value to the viewer, an important aspect in the understanding of modern digital photography.
